Our founder
Dr. Matthew Liptak, Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr Liptak graduated from Flinders University, Adelaide, in 1996 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2007. Following this, he completed a Clinical Knee Fellowship (Sports and Arthroplasty) with the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and visited with several centres of orthopaedic excellence in the UK, US and France.

A brief timeline of the MAXM story to date.
2011
Dr Liptak observes a patient in a regional town using a skateboard to complete their post-operative exercises has recovered at an accelerated rate.
2012
The first MAXM Skate prototype is produced.
Dr Liptak is accepted into the Medical Device Partnering Program (MDPP) and embarks on 250 hours R&D.
2014
The first MAXM motion data sensor prototype is created. It measures, records, and transmits the range of motion data and proves Dr Liptak’s concept of a sensor attached to a skate is viable.
2017
Flinder’s University Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI) engineers develop two new sensors to wirelessly transmit the users’ exercise movements to a smart phone app.
2018
After many iterations and prototypes, the unique curvature of the MAXM Skate is perfected and globally patented.
2019
MAXM Skate app v1.0 is completed and ready for clinical trials.
2020
Clinical trials show MAXM patients rapidly improve their range of motion with less pain, report increased motivation as a result of the app, and save the health system between $8-25k per patient.
2021
ARTG listing with the TGA listing (Australia).
2022
MAXM goes into manufacturing in Australia and establishes its first commercial team following successful cap raises.
Real-world study with the ACHA group of hospitals in South Australia shows reduced patient pain levels, and increased range of motion and mental health improvements.
2023
MAXM commences research project with a pHD student and Flinders University into how AI can further enhance motion sensor accuracy and predict rehabilitation progress.
MAXM commences its first commercial contracts.
MAXM achieves regulatory listings with the US (FDA), Europe (CE Mark) and India (CDSCO). 2023/24 – Global distribution partnerships are established and first global sales are achieved.
2024
MAXM enters US market.
MAXM Skate 2.0 released and orders in India, Mexico, Dubai, USA, UK, Taiwan and Australia are fulfilled.
MAXM achieves additional regulatory listings in Korea, India, the Philippines and Singapore.
